Is using 1A power adapter instead of 500mA safe?

Post by Nipuna » Tue Aug 16, 2011 11:54 am

Power adapter of my router is broken. I tried power adapters I have but their power aren't enough for my router.

Router requires 12V 500mA. So I thought to buy one from eBay and I found this for cheap :D I would buy even an expensive one if i need, But in these days my financial status isn't good so I can't spend more money. If not I will buy one even for 10$. I am not greedy for money.

http://cgi.ebay.com/US-DC-12V-1A-Switch ... 3f082b7d77

But it's 12V and 1A.

So my question is,

Is this safe to use with my router? because this is 1A and it's double than what router requires.

Supplying power from a 1A adapter to 500mA device is very good. Current is defined as the flow of electric charge through a medium. If your adapter is marked as 1A, that means it can provide current up to 1A (maximum). If a device connected to it is only taking 500mA, it only provides 500mA.

I can't tell you anything about the one in eBay link. However I agree with you, it is not possible to find a good power adapter from here as well.

Cool. Then I will buy that.

In SL, Some people sell power adapters for 1000Rs and some people say if we need an adapter we need to buy a router to get one. What a crazy saying

Out of topic.

BTW: It would have been good if you bought a Gigabit Ethernet card (10/100/1000 Mbits) since 10/100 Mbit cards are out of market now (http://cgi.ebay.com/D-Link-DGE530T-10-1 ... 0511647553). However for you, it is enough to have 10/100 Mbps.
