Making a car is a complicated job. However it is not impossible. Humans made lots of wonders with science. However modifying a car might ease your job.
If you are referring the electronic part like talking computer, GPS based map, auto routing for given two locations, traffic avoidance, etc..., almost all are already available in modern cars (I'm sure you can find them in SL as well). If you are going to make them, each part has theories to study in mathematics, software and electronics. If you could point out one at a time, I can tell you want subjects to study in brief.
