What is good? PIC or Atmel ?

Hi All,
Some say "PIC is old.It now not use in industrial uses.only use for household and hobby."
They say, "Atmel is better than PIC."

Please explain usage of PIC and Atmel.
What are different between both?

Can you tell me the difference between Toyota and Nissan? Or in Sri Lanka Arpico or Cargills? The question is something like that. Both microcontrollers are used in the field quite often and it is a myth that PIC is not used for professional applications. PIC has a huge series of microconotrollers for industrial applications. If you take dsPIC, that's a marvelous chip with built in floating point core-processor. PIC is very useful for learning. Once you learn basic theories, you can switch to anything. So at this time, don't get confused (I found that the people who argue on those are not the ones who really work with them), just use PIC.

The job title is goes as "Firmware Developer" ,"Firmware Engineer" , "Validation Engineer" or "Automation
Engineer" like such.

I have read lots of job postings , when they are asking for a job they don't mention what is the vendor of
the microcontroller for a example - specialized in Microchip PIC products , ARM or 8051 ,etc. Generally
they are asking for the firmware development skills.

But I bet most of the old company and old company automation jobs are related to the 8051 stack. Not because
8051 is good but it's old. Where they need to keep the binary compatibility , otherwise there's no reason to
keep in the old CISC microcontrollers. Companies should definitely willing to update to powerful 32 bit
microprocessors.

Such as why still jobs for MFC jobs exists in the job market ? Because to maintain the old codebases.That's
why 8051 jobs are still exist today more than microchip PIC. but it's clear that very near future and
even the new projects , companies are move to 32-bit microcontrollers than plain old 8051.

One of my IRC friend told me that if you want to go in the filed of industry automation ADA is the new coming
filed.

And in the factory automation , most of the automation is done by the CNC programming.
[even the Iran's nuclear power plants /nuke assembly stations used CNC programming to their robot
control , I'm pretty sure they are using pirated software, ya MICROSOFT WINDOWS ].

Another programming language that I heard is ladder. It's also used widely in medium scale factories.


No matter what programming language you use in industry automation, you need to know some basic
things and mathematics. that's kind a general mechtronic skills. So using your microchip or whatever,
develop those basic skills. But I don't think you could find a job without basic mathematics skills.
because mathematics are everywhere.

However, I should ask you, what is the goal of yours for putting all these stuff. Friends from IRC, Job titles, CNC control blah blah blah.. . The question is "What is good?. PIC or Atmel?". And SevenZero has posted a good reply. Did you skip it?. This is not a contest for selecting the best answer. Adding a compare and contrast between the two brands is ok but look at what you have added. And have you really worked on both of those platforms?.

SemiconductorCat (who was having the previous username as Sandun Dhammika) broke several rules on the forum including rule number (1) and banned for 50 years.

We found that he has a sick mentality to think he is an expert while being a student of Open University and was once kicked off from first job (no doubt, same thing might have happened -> show off). Sad to see him leave, but we also have a level of toleration. His parents have not taught him the basic but essential lessons to live as a human being in the society.

I'll list down all his fights with us (I'm like 10 years senior to him and you will see how he has disrespected me. Nobody does this ever and if he does this in-front of me, I know how to behave). Anyway I tolerate all your disrespects and leave you to learn a lesson from the society.
