Do you have a analog multimeter? ( As I always told you analog multimeter is your swis army knife).
Then you could install realterm software http://realterm.sourceforge.net/
and toggle RTS DTR status and put the multimeter on pin 7 and pin 4 and simply check whether
the output is changing according to your toggling.



Even you could change those status using a simple C++ program: https://sites.google.com/site/sandundha ... serialport [This may sometimes useful].

Anyway sounds like you have DIY made your programmer. Even you could use the old JDM programmer with
usb2serial adapter,it's not recommended. Simply you could order a RHoS PICKIT2 from TRONIC.LK,
But you have to understand one thing, what's going inside a programmer is not magic, and even it's not complicated.
I think PICKIT2 is a open-source design already. So feel free to use it. But nothing like your own home-made PIC programmer could program your chip in the newbie level right?

Short pin 2 & 3 of serial port(DB 9 connector). Open hyper terminal for same serial port number like COM1 and type any character. You will see same character two times in screen. It means serial port is working.
