Hi,

I have a question regarding serial flash chips. Recently have came across that serial flashes are used in common as a data storage solution. I need to know how they are interfaced to a CPU. Is it a 2-wire system or a more complicated one? Any idea is kindly appreciated.

Hi Friend ,

Serial Flashes are very common on these days and it is not difficult to interface them. YOu can easily interface them
with a microcontroller such as PIC or Atmel. The protocoal you talk with serial flash from and to microcontroller is depend on the serial flash and this should be mention in the relevant serial flash data sheet.

How ever most serial flashes are available with SPI protocoal , which is very easy to use protocaol and most microcontrollers are come with hardware SPI ports. If your microcontroller have not any hardware SPI ports , you can do it by software SPI
