Recover SAM file

I tried to change the windows password using a Ubuntu Live USB drive from the chntpw. I couldn't reset the password. Now I can't log into the computer using my password. Is There a way I can recover my SAM file.
P.S. - my guest account is working fine.

There is a backup at %System32%/config/regBack/ . Restore the file at %system32%/config/SAM from the backup. I have recovered from corrupted registries after restoring relevant registry file from the backup.
You will have to boot from the CD and use the command console or Ubuntu might also work.
