Default gateway is a setting that you need to on the PC (irrespective of the OS) to get internet access using an Ethernet router.

However, if DHCP enabled in your router (usually it is default to have DHCP enabled as a factory setting), then all these settings are sent from the router to your computer along with the dynamic IP address every time your OS boots. It seems you are using your router with DHCP enabled.

With DHCP, the problem is, it is not guaranteed to assign the same IP address for your computer every time. In some cases it is important have a unique IP especially in programming cases. However since you seems to be fine with a dynamic IP, it is okay to work as you do now.

Don't know whether you get it right or wrong. But this is what I was talking about. If DHCP is enabled, no configuration needed on your OS but you may be having a different IP every time you connects to the router. If DHCP is disabled, then it is nightmare that you surf internet without configuring TCP/IP settings ;)

This is a sample DHCP settings page on a D-Link router.

I said that I will ask if i get a Question when I study Programing ;) I think those IP related Questions must be in advanced topics in Programing.

And I am still on Do While loop on C++

BTW Is Your Project Over Now? :) I am always looking for you Here, I couldn't talk with you for a While Now :) And I feel lonely without having a Talk with a Good Buddy of Mine :)

There was a Heavy Rain on 25th May.

I Disconnected My Router from Every Cable. But it's Wifi antenna was connected.

Due to heavy Lightning My Router stopped working. Now I think I have to buy another One :(

Is there any way to repair that? I think it would be impossible since the Transistor at the circuit board near the power connector is Heating into very High temperature. And there is a BGA Chip at the center of the Circuit board and it is Heating too.

Here is my Router

What are your Ideas?

Out of topic... No connection to the topic.

Anyway no use on trying to repair the router. Go for a new one. I found D-Link is very convenient and cheap. An Ethernet type (non-wireless) one was about Rs. 4500/= few months back (according to my memory).

Nipuna, you need Lightning Protection for your Telephone Line.

You can buy one for few dollars but it is easy to build up your own one for few bucks.

Have a look at Lightning Protection for Telephone Line (RJ11)

Here is a commercial one.

Thanks for the Help Friend.

But My Router wasn't connected to the Phone line. It just stopped working. I think i had connected the wifi antenna to it. I think that could be the cause.

By The Way, I will make one and Connect to the Phone line. Because it's Good to get precautions
