Try windows 7, it is better. My experience with SP3 was bitter. Crashes .. crashes ... crashes.

The only time I got a blue screen in Windows 7 is when I accidentally overclocked my Graphic Cards memory over 400MHz (Default 333MHz, clock. DDR2 667).

Restoring boot loader for Ubuntu could be tricky, you will have to reinstall GRUB.

Win XP SP2 had no problem at all. But After I downloaded and installed the SP3 (Only the service pack, not the whole OS ), the computer became useless. Computer was slow, crashed frequently. That's for me, you should give it a try to see how it works for you. :)

And, about installing GRUB. I can't remember the exact procedure. You will have to boot Ubuntu CD and install the GRUB from there.
Check the following guide.

Mine is a 3 years Old( ) Pentium D.

MotherBoard: A shitty Intel D945GNT (Cost me 13000 3 years ago, it has a CPU socket, Four RAM Slots and expansion slots as FEATURES. I would never buy Intel again).
CPU: Pentium D 925 3GHz 800MHz FSB 4MB L2 Cache
Memory: 2GB DDR2 667MHz (2x1GB in dual channel)
Hard Disk:160GB SATAII 15ms average seek time (50MB/s read)
Removable Storage: Asus LightScribe DVD Writer, 1814BL firmware version 1.14
Graphics: GeForce 7600GS 512MB PCIe (400MHz GPU, 333MHz Memory) :(
Sound: Onboard IDT audio + Creative SB Audigy
Speakers:Creative Inspire M5300
Monitor: A bulky Compaq P920 that I would be more than happy to get rid of.

Assembled By: Me :)

[Windows 7 Experience Index 4.4]

I don't expect to upgrade soon. I will only upgrade when DDR4 becomes the standard :D (Not sure, but this is still enough for me, except for rare video encoding)

I have a copy of Original Sp3 that given by Srilankan Government to Career training centers(??????? ?????? ?????????)

My Sinhala Spelling are wrong because i can't type sinhala well so i used http://www.ucsc.cmb.ac.lk/ltrl/services ... er/t1.html this. :) :)

I didn't saw big deference between sp2 and above sp3.I didn't install this so I am telling this by locking at the auto play function that appears when a CD inserted to CD Drive when windows running.

Thanks

You cannot expect drastic changes between service pack releases for Windows. They are basically updates and bug fixes for the OS.
