Have seen an earlier post "Re: DCP 650VA UPS circuit" and that prompted me to join and write. The prduct brochure says "Software Monitoring (USB) optional intelligent UPS comes with user friendly UPS monitoring software that monitors & records input/output voltages battery status, load level". I am no expert but am in management. We want to connect two dual core machines running linux serving as firewalls to this unit. If duration of power failure is long we want the UPS to trigger the two machines to shut down. The seller says "yes, can with the supplied software". Has anyone used this or the 850/1200VA models and implemented such shut down successfully? Help please. Charlex

Hi

Welcome to Expertcore and I am the person who started this topic "DCP 650VA UPS circuit".

Actually I haven't done exactly as that you need to do but I'll share the thing that I know.

For that DCP 650VA UPS I got a serial cable and a CD containing a software for the UPS. One or two times I used that software then removed it.

What I did was connected the serial cable to my computer and when power goes the UPS software turned off the computer and it also showed some messages and I don't remember them now. Because I used this a long time ago.

As I remember that software can monitor the battery level and some more. And also we can set the duration that how long the PC must be kept running by the software without shutting down.

I don't think I did much of a help, but I think my reply will give you something :)

Thank you very much. Your reply gives me much confidence that our technical person should be able to sort the problem out. Debug people say that currently the 650VA does not support software but that all other models i.e. 850/1200/2000VA do support it and connection is via USB. I tend to be a little cautious about claims by those who sell products and wish to have extra information, and your provides that. Let us see if in addition someone who is using it currently too contributes something. Thank you so much. Charles (Charlex)

Glad I could help :)

By the way, I forgot to tell you. I used it on Windows but I think if it only support Windows, you guys will be able to use that software on Linux by using Wine or something :)
