I am in a middle of a problem. :?

That is I can't select what to learn among HTML and Java. :?

I know some basic of HTML and also in Java.

I want to learn both. I need to learn HTML --> XHTML --> CSS. But I also want to learn Java too. I was learning Java till the end of August. But then I got some personal problems then they interrupted my learning.

I felt essential of learning HTML because I do freelancing and a good buyer I know is teaching me to design Magento themes and also paying me giving works that I can do. And he is hoping to get me as a designer after teaching me them. And of course after I learning them well.

So for them I need to have a good knowledge in HTML and CSS.

But I need to learn Java too. I like it too. As I know Java is Harder than HTML and CSS. And also I know HTML and CSS are easy to learn.

You guys always say "Learn one thing at a time". I was following that but now I need to learn them both.

1. Is it OK to learn HTML and Java simultaneously ? (I am hoping to learn HTML then XHTML then CSS) Because these are different(I mean C++ and Java have similarities But Java and HTML are completely different by all means ) Because I need to learn these quickly.

2. How long will it take to get a good knowledge in HTML and CSS ?

3. How long will it take to get a good knowledge of Java ?

If you good people can give me an answer today then I can start learning from tomorrow morning with a fresh mind.

Thanks

You already states that you need to learn both. I think that courage of you will drive you to do what you want.
But I need to learn Java too. I like it too. As I know Java is Harder than HTML and CSS. And also I know HTML and CSS are easy to learn.
Java has lots of syntaxes and semantics than HTML/CSS. But that doesn't meant Java is harder. I think Java is the easiest language to learn these days. Also, don't underestimate HTML/CSS.

Whenever there isn't any intersection, it is okay to follow as many as you can handle. In school, we did maths, science, history, etc... We never found any problem. It was essential for us to learn everything together so we simply did it. However learn anything systematically. Step by Step. Just don't miss parts when you read a book.

Code: Select all

 1. Is it OK to learn HTML and Java simultaneously ?
Yes. I don't see any problem there as long as you can handle them. It's all depend on your capability to grab them.
2. How long will it take to get a good knowledge in HTML and CSS ?
It depends on your capability. I can only guess. 3 months?
3. How long will it take to get a good knowledge of Java ?
Again a guess. 3 months?

After learning the language, there is no guarantee that you can start working with it. You will have to do lots of practicals while learning. In my dad's words, computers are about 1 hour theory, 3 hour practical ;) . That's really the truth.

Yes. I also understand that i need to practice a lot if not I have only theory knowledge and only a master of books. ;) but can't do anything.

I hope to use http://www.w3schools.com/ for HTML and CSS. Because it's tutorials are well organized and nice eye catching design and of course easy to learn and remember. ;)

And I will continue reading Java a beginner's guide book.

Do you think they are good?
