Hello

I have a problem. Due to lighting of a past day My Router was broken and Phone line was no connected but WIFI antenna was raised and It was connected to the PC using Ethernet port.

My PC is working.

Today I found another router which i bought for a friend of mine. I made settings of it for him. But when i connected it to Ethernet port Router doesn't recognize that it was connected. But PC's Ethernet port's Light is Working.

And my friend said he connected the router to his PC's Ethernet port and He said it is working.

I think my PC's Network card must be Broken. My PC's Mother board is Foxconn G31-MX and Network card is On-board. And Device Manager Recognizes the Network adapter and i can Enable it or Disable it from there.

Is there any way to Repair the Network card?

Lighting caused for this and will my other cards will be broken too? since they all are on-board too. will there be even a single problem for my PC? because if an electronic Equipment was broken due to lighting it gets more Errors than one since lighting shocks are too Powerful . SO I'm Worried because If even a single thing happen to my PC it will effect for my Studies. :(

Thanks

You can't say your card isn't working with this. If the IP/Subnet mask settings are not as in your network card, you will see the same thing. It could be that either your IP or Subnet mask mismatches with the router.

So I'm lacking information to predict anything on your card.

You said you are connected to your wireless router using the Ethernet port. Have you been able to connect to the admin interface of that wireless router?

Let me ask some questions.
1. When you connect a router to your network card while you are in Windows, what's in the network indicator icon. Is it coming with one of "Connected", "Disconnected" or "Trying to find a IP" symbols?

2. What's your cards network configuration. Is it configured as 'Server Assigned IP and DNS" or manually configured IP/Subnet mask and DNS? If those are manually entered, type in the list.

3. What's the type of LAN configuration on your Wireless Router/Friend's router? Are the routers with DHCP enabled?
If not, what is the IP and Subnet mask of LAN configuration in your routers?
Is there any way to Repair the Network card?
No

Don't worry too much. I don't think the other cards are effected even if the network card is gone (An external network card can be fixed for a cost of < Rs. 1000).

I was Able to Connect to it when I got my router 4 months back. Without doing any just by typing 192.168.0.1
But After my router broken, I only connected my friend's router yesterday. And it is same model as my one. But I couldn't go to the admin panel so what i did was Connected it via USB and Installed the Drivers then i was able to log in to admin panel.

I changed RJ45 cables too but didn't work but my friend said at his PC it worked just after connecting.

1. It says Disconnected.

2.Server Assigned IP and DNS ( I didn't enter any. They automatically were assigned Not Now, when my Router was working.)

3. DHCP Is Not enabled (You Said about this in one of my Past Post. But I didn't Enable it. Since i didn't need to )

192.168.0.1

My Network Card's Light is working and The Light is a Green one.

And Is It OK to buy a USB to Lan Converter like this?

http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-RJ45-Lan-Card-1 ... 4aa8b72c00

Will I able to use all the Command and Work with it as a Normal Network card? Will I able to use this with Linux too? Without Drivers?

1. It says Disconnected.
If that is the case then there is a problem. But it could be the cable or the other device (router) as well.
2.Server Assigned IP and DNS ( I didn't enter any. They automatically were assigned Not Now, when my Router was working.)
This means you are running DHCP client on your PC. See under services if you want.
3. DHCP Is Not enabled (You Said about this in one of my Past Post. But I didn't Enable it. Since i didn't need to )
If you need an IP/DNS for your PC (Server assigned IP setting) from the connecting device (router) then the router should be enabled with DHCP server.

However DHCP is not the issue with yours. Even if the DHCP/Manual IP config is not configured correctly, the network icon should not stays as disconnected.

If you can confirm that yours friend's router works on his PC, then take the same patch cable and try on your PC. If you see the Disconnected icon, then you will have to buy a new Network Card.

If we can confirm your network card is gone, then we need to do following things.

1. Buy a new card
2. Disable the network adapter from BIOS
3. Connect and install drivers

You will. But I personally don't like it. I like Ethernet to be Ethernet. Not USB.
USB <-> Ethernet adapters will slow down your surfing speed.

I like PCI cards the most.
Try to bid on this. Very good card.
http://cgi.ebay.com/D-Link-DGE530T-10-1 ... 19c5df26de

You can buy this straight away. Realtek is a very good Ethernet chip.
http://cgi.ebay.com/10-100M-Ethernet-LA ... 3f04c29c86

My personal favourite - 3Com Fast Etherlink (Very very reliable)
http://cgi.ebay.com/3Com-Fast-Etherlink ... 5639914109

Another popular card from Intel. Bit expensive than the others but very good in quality.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel-8390MT-1000-M ... 231121a375

All these 4 cards are good.

I also have another good suggestion for you. I remember I told this to someone else on this forum as well.
If there is a used Branded computer computer shop near to you, you will find the 3Com card I mentioned above. You will be able to buy one for about Rs. 300 and they are very very good in quality.

According to my knowledge, NO.

If you buy the USB <-> Ethernet adapter, you'll be able to test.

I've disabled LAN from BIOS.

But after Enabling there is no way to check Is it working or not. Since i don't have a router.

If i check Ethernet port's pins with Multimeter when cheeking if they conduct electricity that means is It working?

The only way that i can see my Network card is working is Its Light is working and Windows And BIOS recognize it.

No.. You will not be able to check anything useful in that way. A scope might help but not worth to waste time.

You can't say the card works in that way. I have so much of bad cards with same indications.
