Buying a GPS Module/GPS Board

Post by Herath » Mon Nov 29, 2010 6:41 pm

Hi All,

I am planning to build a little GPS receiver, mainly for education purpose. As the first step toward it, I am having to find a good GPS receiver board. I have already considered SiRFStar II board and U-BLOX NEO-6 modules. SiRFStar II seems more affordable to me than the NEO-6. And I don't expect superior performance out of the final product.

So, If anyone has good idea about what to select, I would be thankful.

Further more, I like to know if there are places where I can get my SMD Soldering jobs done since I do not have the required equipment at my disposal.

Thank You and have a great day!

Regarding the SMD problem, I already mentioned about buying an already soldered module as below.

Interfacing U-blox is not a hard job at all. Also, those are very easy to handle. Every electrical device has such requirements and mostly don't worry about them at this stage.
If you buy a GPS module as the following one, you will not have to worry about those. This costs around US$ 30.
