Reason: Added http prefix. Otherwise it won't be treated as a link

I was wondering whether that is really possible when you suggest that link. I don't see anything like that in that link other than it states how can I install it on Windows XP? Until now, that hasn’t been possible ;)

Anyway, there is no direct way. We can't download a separate install for IIS. It comes as a Windows Component. Other than you are able to install that, there is noway to upgrade those components.

Windows XP - IIS 5.1

Windows Server 2003 - IIS 6

Windows Server 2008, Vista, Windows 7 - IIS 7

Anyway Microsoft has released something called WebMatrix which allows you to develop websites for free. Have a look at http://www.microsoft.com/web/webmatrix/. It is said to install a version of IIS called IIS Express which is based on the IIS 7x codebase.

This means you can build and run your applications just they’ll work on a real production web-server. In addition to scenarios like SSL, you can take advantage of the IIS 7.x URL Rewriter module, Media Extensions, Dynamic Compression, Advanced Logging, Custom Security and other rich modules now available.

In addition to supporting ASP.NET, IIS Express also supports Classic ASP and other file-types and extensions supported by IIS – which also makes it ideal for sites that combine a variety of different technologies.

Correct. But it is still not the production quality IIS7. It's a version based on the IIS7 code called IIS Express (with less features & a set of imposed restrictions).

Just as VS.Net and VS.Net Express versions.
