I know it is not easy to get a .lk domain even you spend money on it. They maintain it in highest quality where only Sri Lankans get the .lk recognition. The rate is far too much for ordinary users. Very expensive than .COM as well.
However I must admit that .lk is maintaining with highest quality where only legitimate Sri Lankan users/companies get the provision to have a .lk domain.

I do not agree with the fact that giving away free domains will promote IT in a country
If you see the economy of .tk, you can see that they are running is a complete loss. Without New Zeeland subsidiaries they can't even eat. So their aim and objectives with .tk domain is clear on the wiki article. They just want to promote their country for tourism, etc... Promoting IT for their total population of 1000 with free .tk domain is not their plan.
