Seems like an excellent configuration. Can you tell us how many tabs you could open without any addon/extension please?
I'm sure you'll be able to figure out the buggy addon with this.

Can't believe that it is slow on a Core 2 Duo. I am doing very fine with a Pentium D 925. And 2GB of DDr2 667MHz memory. But using 32bit windows 7 since there is no clear advantage for me rather than being able to go for more than 3GB memory.

I am have firefox 3.6 also installed in a different location but I don't think that will affect on this.

It can be a problem. Can you uninstall all Firefox installations and install 5.0 and see how it goes?
I was upgrading it since 3 (may be) and believe my word, it works very well on mine.

IE6 on windows 2000 used less than 6mb, and was stupidly faster then most of todays modern browsers the reason for that is simple. it run everything without security its in my believe that to many security features on a browser really slows the whole Internet experience.

you can still experience how fast IE6 was on windows 2000 by installing that OS again and compare it with the modern versions.

right now 172mb for firefox and no flash plugin :( with flash it goes into 250 mb

IE6 could be fast but not supporting modern web pages. can you have a look on http://www.20thingsilearned.com/
you may have to use firefox 4+ or chrome to see this correctly......
Technology is growing fast.... we need to get ready for it.

main drawback for web developers is usage of expired web browsers....

even Google has announced they will not support for Firefox 3.5.x, Opera 3.x IE 6 ...etc further more from august.
