As instructed for one of the members, there are certain methods that I know.
- Search Engine registration
Everybody knows about this and its related topics like search engine registration. You must include correct title, meta tags, unique content, keywords, robot.txt, .htaccess to divert http://site... to http://www.site..., etc... Since this is a common topic, I'm not going to make it descriptive. If you don't have your own web hosting account (at least FTP access), then you must be depend on the cms, blog, forum, etc... software that you are running.
However you must aim 80% of your users to come through search engines if you are going to add Click/impression advertising to your website. - Unique content
This is very important in all cases. For example: Google AdSense crawls your keywords and put targeted advertisements to your site. The more unique contents you have, more visitors you get + unique advertisements you get. - Directory submission
I have already added a huge list of directories and you can submit your website to almost all of these. But aim at high ranking web directories. See High Pagerank Web Directories List. - Increase back links to your site
This is about adding your site url to other web sites. For example: say some people are discussing about a topic that you already have an article in your site. You just add a reply like add a little description about the topic and add "See your_link for more information about this". This will make users to click on this link and come to your site + improve page ranking (Google Page Rank, etc...).
As ROBOT.LK is always about helping our members, we have created a separate section under member area called member advertising. Add a small description of your web site or page and then a link to your page. - Stumble Upone
This is a new method that we haven't discussed before. Register with http://www.stumbleupon.com and submit your site. Download the Stuble! toolbar and add almost all your pages as "I like it!". This is a new method and lots of webmasters are using it now.
