How to get email alerts on Dialog, Mobitel & Etisalat phones

Post by Neo » Sun Aug 14, 2011 9:18 pm

If you are using an email service that supports email forwarding such as gmail, you have a chance to get an alert on your email. I have checked it myself. Alert comes almost instantly. Note that this is not free.
Here is how to do it (I assume you have a Dialog phone & a Gmail address)
  1. Setup your mobile phone to receive email to SMS
I called Dialog Customer Service and they told me it is not required to do any special setup with them.
However some suggests it is required to send an SMS to 678 with text ACT<space>DMAIL.
My email to SMS address will looks like [email protected] with them.
Each email to SMS will be charged Rs.1.00 + taxes

With Mobitel, the number is [email protected]
Please call their customer service to check rates.

If you use Etisalat, here is the info (http://www.etisalat.lk/VASSMS.cfm?page=MailSMS).
If you're mobile number is 072-4414141
Your Etisalat mail address will be: [email protected]
Each email to SMS will be charged Rs.1.00 + taxes

Please check with other carriers and add information to this post.
  2. Here are the steps to configure your Gamil account
    1. Step 1

    2. Step 2: Here you will have to verify this address (You will receive an SMS from Gmail with a code)

    3. Step 3

    4. Step 4

I checked this setup myself for fun. All ROBOT.LK alerts came almost instantly :yahoo:

In Mobitel we don't get SMSes but MMSes comes. So we can't setup SMS alerts. Only MMS alerts that can be used.

I've checked this before and know :)

Okay. So only Dialog (checked by myself) and Etisalat work for now.

Nipuna, what's the email to MMS number with Mobitel then?

Great. However Dialog and Etisalat charge Rs. 1 + taxes per email to SMS. If you receive 20 alerts per day, that's 600 alerts per month. So the cost would be Rs. 600 + taxes. This is pretty expensive
