what is artificial intelligence ai?

Post by aiartificiali » Thu Apr 25, 2013 6:47 am

Anyone know of any introduction to AI?
I would love to start learning this on a basic level but don't have a clue where to start..

AI, artificial intelligence. In other words man made intelligence.

According to the technology and how poeple defined the AI it's divided into 4 categories.

1. Machines that think like human.
2. Machines that act like human.
3. Machines that work rationally.
4. Machines that act rationally.

There are so many school of taught behind each and every category. Some say that machines that
think like human are entiraly impossible. But some argue that human brain as a object , and if we could
recreate that object then it's completely possible to make machines that think like human.
It's based on the connectionalism concept.Where they believe mind and the brain is a one thing.
And other people believe that mind is something like a magical thing. I don't like to attach ANY religious
taught here (PLEASE !!!!!).

the categories 1 and 3 belongs to 'strong AI' where you could entirely replace human agent of intelligence
with a microprocessor or a human made machine completely. Belongs to human like performance or more
performance beyond human agents. This requires the complete understanding and theorizing of the
how human mind/brain [congestion ] works.

category 2 and 3 belongs to simulating the human like or rationally like behavior. For a example think about a
computer program that uses a table to apply voltage to a heater according to a input temperature. But it
does not understand the whole thermodynamic theory behind it. But it does just build to simulate it.
Such a system does not need to understand how such a human like agent take decisions. Just need to simulate
it.

It's all about the first chapter introduction. In next chapters , it teaches you how to solve problems
and model problems in the computer domain. Using various techniques.

The best way to learn that is using Artifical intelligence Modern Approach book. This is the classic book that
every computer science/engineering student does use.
you could use this video lecture too:

Keep your interest up.seriously this is used very much in the industry. Now this filed is completely industrial
engineering filed (unlike previous days it only a CS theory subject). For a example, in your laser printer it
uses a neural network to train about toner dynamics. Such a patent for your advanced internet to ramp up:
http://www.google.com/patents/US5794094

So it's industrial. But to read and understand such a patent , you need more mathematics +completed this
introductory undergraduate course.
