How to install Ubuntu on an Atom netbook

Post by Saman » Sun Jan 15, 2012 2:24 am

Most of the netbooks are coming without a CD/DVD drive and with a licensed copy of Windows 7 Starter. For example Acer Aspire One D257 is such great netbook. But, how you are going to install a Linux distribution such as Ubuntu on it?

There is an easy way to do that assmuning you already have a more powerful PC running Ubuntu.
  1. Download the latest copy of Ubuntu ISO image. As of today, the latest version of Ubuntu is 11.10.
  2. Run startup USB Creater.

  3. Put Ubuntu onto your USB flash drive. Please be sure you need to have a 1GB USB pen drive/CF/SD/MMC card. Make sure to backup the USB pen drive since Ubuntu is going to format it to load the OS.
  4. Configure your computer to boot from USB flash drive and boot from it
  5. Try Ubuntu or install to your hard drive.
Enjoy!
