Post by Nipuna » Sun Nov 07, 2010 3:33 pm

Is usbdevfs available on Ubuntu 10.10 Now? It wasn't on Ubuntu 10.04

If No How can I install it ? From .Deb packages or any way but must be offline installation because I don't have internet on Ubuntu

Hi, I know your problem for a long time. And the solution I suggested was to install Virtual Box (Select Ubuntu as the OS) on Windows 7 and then install Ubuntu using the CD. Then you will be able to access Internet connection of Windows 7 in Ubuntu Virtual Box. Then from there you will be able to download everything you need and try them at the same time. Once you get everything you need, you can copy the packages that you have downloaded to USB stick or HD share and install them on your real Ubuntu installation. Virtual Box with Ubuntu just costs a few GBs in your HD but it is really worth to have it running side by side to Windows for me. Give it a go....

I tried Ubuntu 10.10 on VirtualBox then It gave me another error message so I thought in Ubuntu 10.10 My Modem will work so I installed Ubuntu 10.10 as Dual Boot and tried installing Eciadsl but It gave me same error as on Ubuntu 10.04.

I've searched on Ubuntu Forums that's why I am Asking you Guys.

Here is the Error Message I get from Ubuntu 10.10 not from VB from real one

Code: Select all

root@nipuna-OEM:~# eciadsl-start

[EciAdsl 1/5] Setting up USB support...

Preliminary USB device filesystem is missing... trying to mount
Preliminary USB device filesystem: failed to load
/usr/bin/eciadsl-start: line 263: fatal: command not found
cat: /proc/bus/usb/devices: No such file or directory
Loading UHCI support... Warning: uhci-hcd module doesn't exist
Warning: tun/tap module does not exist

[EciAdsl 2/5] Uploading firmware...

grep: /proc/bus/usb/devices: No such file or directory
grep: /proc/bus/usb/devices: No such file or directory
ERROR: modem not found
root@nipuna-OEM:~#
I think I have to install this " uhci-hcd module "

i searched about this too but No Luck. :(

Thanks

There are only few options you can do here.
  1. Borrow a ADSL modem which has ethernet, set Ubuntu gateway to that and download everything required to run EciAdsl. Then give a try to your modem.
  2. Install Ubuntu on a Virtual Box under Windows where you have internet working already, download everything required to install EciAdsl (since you have the internet in Virtual Box).
  3. Buy a router with Ethernet which costs around LKR 4000 (~US$ 40).
  4. Try to post the problem on Ubuntu forums by explaining your issue. Make sure you mention that you don't have any internet connection (Otherwise they will explain the way to get it over an active internet connection).
  5. Find someone who has Ubuntu/EciAdsl (also the same modem will be great) and get his advise.
  6. Final option is to download the packages from Windows and load each and every to Ubuntu until it becomes successful.
Note that you will have to try quite harder on this. Hard trying on fixing stuff over terminal window is one of the fantasies that Linux users love

Good luck!!!

hello dude, the problem can be easy fixed,

you need to clean your disk for free space

install virtual box, load the ubuntu ,iso, just boot as liveCD, open package manager , look for that deb, install it, now you do ubuntu backup, from there you can pick any deb file you downloaded, when you created ISO, just load to usb pen drive, or cd, go into real ubuntu and import your backup, see problem fixed

this is long way ! :D
