Can't we improve an used mobile phone to an Intercom

I think it is imposible. Because mobile phones are not made to commiunicate between two phones directly. They use a long process to connect to another phone (This process is copleted by mobile networks). So we are unable to anything without help of a mobile network provider.

Rksk is correct. It is not possible to directly use mobile phones as intercom since all the operations are handled by a GSM exchange in the middle. However, you can modify the electronics to communicate via a wireless link (2.4 GHz) directly. If you are good in electronics, you'll be able to do this modification (mostly the whole circuit might need to be replaced) yourself. This would be an interesting experiment to a electronic enthusiast.
