How to test a Balun transformer.

I want to test a SMD balun which is used in my mobiles GSM 850/900 frequency. I guess that continuity tests might work. But, is it possible to detect shorting in a balun if I do not know specifications of the balun?. I am currently using google to find an answer. But thought that it might be easier here. :)

[ I tried Dialog. mobitel and Airtel on the same phone. Airtel works as expected, but not Dialog and Mobitel. And I am only 1km away from the transmitting tower. It seems to me that I am connecting to Airtel in a different frequency(900 or 1800) than Dialog/Mobitel. But I am not sure. :( . If I could figure that out, I will be one step closer to solving my problem ]
