How to get PICKIT2 working under Windows 8 ?

Post by TRONICLK » Sat Aug 24, 2013 2:01 pm

If you are facing difficulties in connecting PICKIT2 under Windows 8, here is a workaround for you to get it working.

When you connect the PICKIT2, you will notice that the PC/Laptop recognises a new USB device. However it doesn't recognise the chips we put to ZIF socket or connect with ICSP cable. We found that some JDM and PICKIT2 programmers are effected.

The reason we found was that the voltage output is far lower than 5v though you notice LEDs to come up. After investigating the matter on the internet, we found that this is because that the Windows 8 expects all drivers to be digitally signed.

Here is a video that illustrates on how to disable the Windows 8 driver signing enforcement.

We followed the steps and re-installed the PICKIT2 driver. After that, your PICKIT2 will start working as before.
