A trouble with JDM programmer

Post by Rksk » Tue Apr 27, 2010 7:26 pm

Now I have a JDM programmer with thanks to ROBOT.LK for donating me.

I inserted the PIC16F877A microcontroller to the ZIF socket of the programmer in the right direction
and pluged serial cabel from PC to Programmer board.

Then I configered WinPic800 with selecting JDM programmer as the hardware.
Then i tried to Flash a hex file to my PIC.
it wasn't success because of I forgot to select device.

after it I selected the device and tried again.
but it wasn't success.
The programmer's LED didn't blink.
winpic800 shows ErrMsg as below

winpic800's log is below..
Opening COM1
Detected -> UNKNOWN
Device Erased .: Ok
[ Verifying during programming ]
Programming Code - 8192 word
Programming Data - 256 byte
Programming ID - 4 word
Error ...

After it I tried with other COM port.
it too did't success.

I can't find the bug.
Pls help me.

Lets analyse the problem step by step.
  1. Did you see the red LED blinking before?
  2. Can you put a photo of the programmer with the IC to see whether you placed it in the right direction?

I didn't see it at any time.

My camera doesn't capture a clear image of it.
There a simple graphic of it.

If you placed the PIC as on image, then it is correct.

The nest things we need to check is, we need to configure the WinPIC800 as in the tutorial and try Erase All. Make sure you select PIC16F877A. This will make the LED to blink.

Can you confirm this now?

There isn't any driver required. You just need to select the correct port from WinPic800 software.

If you have a multi-metre, check the pins of the serial cable to confirm that it is according to RS232.
Make sure the port setting of the COM port is Baud - 9600, Parity - Even, Stop - 1, Data - 8, Handshaking - None (These are default settings).

Go through the tutorial again to confirm that you have selected the right options.

Now winpic800's hardware test says that
Opening COM1
Hardware Ok.
but in detect device it says that
Opening COM1
Detected -> UNKNOWN
Serial cable works as below. is it correct?

I have removed some posts since those might disrupt other readers.

Cable is 100% correct. Also the the JDM programmer was tested before sending. Now I suspect your serial port.

Are you using a serial port in the motherboard?
Any possibility that you can plug the board to someone else's computer?
