Hide PC from My Network Places

Post by Tony » Wed Sep 02, 2009 2:15 am

Sometimes I would like to have a Windows based PC on the network, but I would like to hide it from the Network Neighborhood browse list. In order to hide your PC, just do the following:

Start the registry editor by Clicking on Start -> Run, type Regedit and press OK.

Then go to:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters

From the Edit menu, click on Add Value and Type: Hiddden for the new value. Make sure you capitalize the H as it is case sensitive. In the Data Type field, choose REG_DWORD and choose OK. Then in the Data Field type 1 to enable hiding and click on OK.

Reboot your computer, and it is now hidden from browsing.

NOTE: If your computer already shows up in My Network Places that means it is already listed in the Master Browser. Eventually it will drop off this list, and it will be hidden. Just be patient.
