KGB Archiver - Compress 1Gb to 1Mb its real

Post by Mysoogal » Sun Mar 27, 2011 5:55 am

With KGB Archiver, it is possible to highly compress GB data into seriously small size, I've attached the file below GTA IV.zip

how to use ? uncompress GTA IV.zip to Desktop

download and install Microsoft Framework 2.0

and final install the tool

http://www.softpedia.com/dyn-postdownlo ... 75&t=0&i=1

click on GTA IV and look inside, it is i think 680 Mb compressed file it will take about 7 hours to decompress, i got 2 GB memory and 1.8gh Celeron

more info about this great little tool, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KGB_Archiver

i have sent emails both to Nvida and Intel to push them to develop a processor that specially deals with PAQ algorithm on on demand decompression and compression of data, just imagine compressing DVD into floppy disks

the benefits with this high PAQ algorithm is very good, i hope somebody develops hardware just for this, so we can decompress files on demand without waiting for hours.

and here is the highly compressed file, its stupidly small but open it with KGB Archive and take a look at the size of files lol it is amazing, decompression is recommend only on high end hardware

I just given it a try. It is very good as explained by Mysoogal.

The first unbelievable compression I have seen was from Microsoft. That was a 100 MB installation which came in a 1.44MB floppy disk. It was way back in 1995. And the KGB is far more unbelievable.

Thanks Mysoogal for the information.

to Rksk, sorry i have no idea whats wrong, you normally need to install ms framework 2.0 and install KGB, it is working in my xp just fine so im not sure :)

to neo just imagine if they develop hardware which is capable of decompressing that file in seconds ? ISPs could be saving bandwidth and money in billions

KGB does indeed compress the data, but the output is corrupt and not usable so its a complete fail.

Do not use KGB its waste of time

:) . Seems like the truth of balancing everything comes in to play. If you want more compression you lose reliability. Something like the uncertainty principle.

I was using something called AIN in 90's. It was a DOS version and I have never seen such a reliable compressor which compress quite abnormally. It was a Russian one according to my memory.

However I have settled down myself with RAR for some time now. WinRAR can open almost all compressed formats and I'm happy with it.

what you probably used was most likely developed by somebody in this forum encode.ru all the major compression developers are located in this forum. I'm also registered lol there was a list somebody posted that showed lots of compression programs some new modern compressors created to handle GPU compressing instead of the CPU.

i like to let you guys know its very technical and I could not keep up with them lol

Mysoogal, I don't think. The forum seems a new one to me? It is probably not from 90's (1995 to be exact). I'll try to find the ain.exe if possible. I guess it will work in DOS prompt. But I doubt you like it without an interface ;)

I finally found the AIN compressor from http://compression-links.info/Link/55_H ... _v_2_3.htm. This version was made in 1996. However I was using an older version.
AIN.rar
(106.29 KiB) Downloaded 1069 times
I found this in the copyright.
Copyright (c) 1993-94 Transas Marine (UK) Ltd.
Saint-Petersburg, Russia

Not so good news with this now as RAR outperformed both AIN and ZIP archives.
SourceAINZIPRAR
1,480,600536,259535,941430,710
So out of these 3, the winner is WinRAR

Note that I have compressed the AIN utility using WinRAR. There is a nice story I remembered. One of my friends wanted WinRAR to run on his home PC and he took it compressed with WinRAR itself on his pen to preserve space. I guess you could figure out what has happened when he tried to install it
