  1. Open up the Control Panel.
  2. Go to "System."
  3. Choose the advanced Tab.
  4. In the Performances section, click on "Settings."
  5. Choose the advanced tab there.
  6. In the "Virtual Memory" Section, press "Change."
  7. Select the letter corresponding to your flash drive. (Hint: It's not C.) You can let the system manage the size or customize the amount of space that you want used as virtual memory. I'm not going to use this flash drive for anything else, so I'll let the system manage it.
  8. Make sure to Press Set once you've made your choice.
  9. Press OK, and the changes will take effect.
  10. Then restart your computer.
And now you have a little extra memory at no additional cost.

When it comes to modern operating systems, memory is defined as a collection of electronic chips and some pre-allocated disk space. This disk space is called Virtual memory. The OS used to store idle processes on virtual memory and when one needs to run, the kernel loads it to main memory from virtual memory.

So adding a USB pen as virtual memory will give the opportunity for the kernel to free up some memory from RAM so other programs can acquire freed up RAM and run faster. Adding enough virtual memory will make your system run faster. But it is not speed as if you add real RAM chips.
