QR codes (known as ‘Quick Response’ barcodes) are being used extensively in Australian mobile marketing campaigns to distribute mobile content downloads, promotional messages or links to mobile micro-sites. QR codes can now be decoded using the 3.2 mega-pixel camera on the Sony Ericsson P1i with a free third-party application called i-nigma.

The best method of installing this application is as a mobile download over an available 3G or 801.11G wireless network. Alternative methods are available on the Get the i-nigma reader page but are no where near as convenient.

To help you out I’ve covered the installation process below.

1. Open http://www.i-nigma.mobi using the mobile browser on your Sony Ericsson P1i
2. Press “Press here to install the reader on your device” to begin
3. Press Save to save the iNigmaReader.sis installer file to your internal phone memory (163kB download)
4. When the download is complete press Open
5. Press Install to install the i-nigma QR smart code reader on your Sony Ericsson P1i
6. When the installation is complete close your mobile browser
7. You can open i-nigma from the Main menu > Tools > i-nigma link

That’s it! You’re now ready to decode smart codes and connect direct to the mobile Internet.
