Me and my friends are going to do SCJP (Sun certificate java Programmer) after A/L and we are doing Commerce for A/L where is the best Place to do this course in Sri lanka? What are the prices for this course? In what language this is teaching?
Are there good places in Colombo?
Thanks
SCJP
Re: SCJP
These are the two official locations as listed in Sun site.
Training Center, MillenniumIT
No.1, Millennium Drive
Malambe, Colombo 10115
+ 94 11 2 416000 (Ext : 520/582)
Ceylinco NetAssist (Pvt) Ltd
Level 5, ANC Building
308-310 R.A. De Mel Mawatha
Mawatha, Colombo 3
00 94 11 2375345-6
I would also recommend IDM if they still do Sun certified courses. I heard there is another new place called Institute of Java & Technological Studies.
If you can find few students who did SCJP recently, you could get a better idea.
Hope this helps!

Re: SCJP
Yes IJTS is the place where I'm learning Java. Now the SCJP is not recommended for Java course there isn't SUN Microsystems. So we are doing a course called PCJT. PCJT is a professional qualification to the seekers who are planning to take their career in Software Developing field. You can go to the top level of the software field JOB hierarchy starting with with PCJT qualification.PCJT trains us to develop a Java Stand Alone Application to a real client. And PCJT gives us academic qualification tooo.I'm guaranteeing you that you cannot survive with the academic qualification if you enter to software field. So I'm recomending you to follow PCJT@ IJTS.

Re: SCJP
Hi Nuwa,
I'm not much interested in Java though I learned it few years back. I'm not yet happy with its performance over languages like C++ (Java is made using C/C++) in platforms like Windows and Linux. But I agree with you my knowledge in Java technologies is far more less than average. Though I know Java programming, Classes, Servlets, Beans, JSP, etc... I know nothing about EJB, J2EE, etc...
. At the time they release their products with the brand "Enterprise" I had to involve with other stuff.
I heard that Sun was bought by Oracle recently. But according to the Oracle site, SCJP and other courses still live. See http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_pro ... 9&lang=PTB.
Do you know anything about this?

But Now I am Doing BIT (Bachelor of Information Technology ) So in BIT I can Learn JAVA.
So I don't think I will have to follow another Professional Qualification Course.

Re: SCJP
I also like to recommend BIT (University of Colombo) to Nuwa since you will have to have a professional qualification when you go in to job market. They categorise the people as degree holders, diploma holders, etc... So if you do BIT, you are going to Degree holders category.
Whenever you do a course, you will have to find how many people are working in the industry with those degrees, etc... Because exaggerations through several marketing techniques by those institutions never going to help you when you are facing an interview. So find out how many guys working in places like MillenniumIT, Virtusa, IFS, eBuilder, Creative Solutions, Motorolla, Zone24, etc... with those degrees. Don't just believe what the marketing guys say to grab your money. Find it out yourself.
It is okay to do a some diploma to increase your knowledge, but make sure you have enough qualifications to get on to the industry.
BIT complies with international standards of IT degrees. And University of Colombo is the most recognised university in Sri Lanka according to the international ranking on local universities. Though they do not conduct lessons, there are places like ESOFT who conduct classes for BIT students.
The reason I want to tell you this is, I'm in the industry for last several years just as most of the senior guys in ROBOT.LK. So we know how the things are working here. It is not that I disrespect your institution. It is that I want to convince you, with BIT, you can join a good company here or overseas without any problem.
