I got my Replaced Router Today.

I connected the Router to the LAN port but Router's LED doesn't indicate the LAN connections.

But Before Windrows or Ubuntu Boot Up Router's LED Lights then when Windows and Ubuntu begin to boot Light turns off and Newer Light Up again. I tried removing and reinstalling Drivers but didn't work. and Disabled and Enabled via BIOS but still don't work.

Do you think I have to but Ethernet card? And Can I use Router Via USB in Ubuntu? And There is only one inf file and Certificate as Drivers for the Router. So Can I install them in Ubuntu? And There is a Software for Ubuntu which allows user to instal windows wireless drivers in Ubuntu, Since my Router is wireless too Will I able to install it using that?

And I am now using it via USB since my Router has both LAN and USB. Is Using via USB slow down my Internet Speed? I think it won't since I used the Modem same way, But I like to know your Answer too.

Thanks

Just Checked.

Router Is working well in Ubuntu and I am writing this using it.

But the Problem is I can't Upgrade Router's Firmware since According to website To Upgrade I must use Ethernet cable.

Here it's Web site

http://www.qwest.com/internethelp/

And my Router's Firmware is Actiontec® GT701-WG

Yes. It is better to use an Ethernet card for internet/network communication.

So it won't reduce your internet speed :)

Did you get your problem fixed?. Raining season is the time of the year I get phone calls from friends asking about their dead computers. I had to repair 2 computers with mainboard and PSU replacement due to thunder in last rainy season. Your symptom is probably due to thunder. Some thunder struck computers boot up, but with problems like no audio, no LAN etc. I repaired a PC of one of my friend and his motherboard's audio chip was crack open due to thunder. :D . And had no blue and red video signals from onboard graphics, everything was green (He had left it connected to router while thundering). Have you heard your SLT phone ringing briefly when thundering. That's electric surges getting through to your side.

The best thing to avoid these is to remove every cable connection to outside networks from your PC. Power connections, internet etc. I never keep my computer connected to them if I see my ADSL line loosing synchronization due to thunder. if ADSL starts to disconnect, remove every cable and wait for the thunder storm to go away. :D . It will save you a lot of headache.

I know that this is not going to help now. But I just wanted to say because most people think that powering down the PC( and any electric equipment) is enough to protect from electric surges from thunder.:)
