Having a Solar Blast (07-06-2011)

Post by SevenZero » Wed Jun 08, 2011 2:23 pm

This is a news from NASA. Most of you might already know this. But I expect there are few who don’t. One thing before you read: This is not dangerous as it was a mild blast. These kinds of mild blasts can effect communication satellites, power grids, etc… Since this is Earth directed, NASA expects that the particles will reach Earth in late hours of June 8th or June 9th.

The Sun unleashed an M-2 (medium-sized) solar flare, an S1-class (minor) radiation storm and a spectacular coronal mass ejection (CME) on June 7, 2011 from sunspot complex 1226-1227. The large cloud of particles mushroomed up and fell back down looking as if it covered an area of almost half the solar surface.
